When people are involved in car accidents, one of two things will happen. First, there is a possibility they will walk away from their accident without even a scratch. That’s a good outcome. The second scenario is the most likely outcome. They will sustain some kind of injury or at the very least end up with bumps, bruises, and pain issues.
Barring a significant injury that requires hospitalization, the injury or pain issues are likely mild to moderate issues. If you were in a car accident and sustained injuries or ended up dealing with pain, the recommendation would be the same. You should think about visiting a chiropractor for chiropractic care.
Let’s take it one step further. You might consider seeing a chiropractor after a car accident as a preventative measure. We suggest this because not all injuries are readily apparent. Some injuries take time to rise to the surface. Taking everything into account, we offer you the following five (5) valid reasons you should see a chiropractor after a car accident.
1. Help Identify an Unrealized Injury
In the prior section, mention was made that not all injuries are immediately apparent after a car accident. There is always a chance the flow of adrenaline or the shock of being involved in an accident will mask pain and injury.
As a preventative measure, seeing a chiropractor would give you an opportunity to get some adjustments that could make you feel better overall. In the process of securing images and working with your back/neck, there is a chance your chiropractor will discover everything is not okay.
By the chiropractor identifying an injury that wasn’t readily apparent, it affords you a chance to seek the proper treatment before a small injury/pain problem becomes a major injury/pain problem.
2. Chiropractic is the Least Invasive Treatment Option
If you got hurt in a car accident, your options are somewhat limited as far as dealing with your injuries and or pair. Your first instinct might be a visit to a doctor or hospital for medical treatment. That would certainly be the right call for a very significant injury.
What you would have to accept is doctors use more invasive treatment options when dealing with patients. The options they might offer you from least invasive to most invasive would include:
- Prescription pain medication
- Epidural shots for temp pain relief
- Recommend physical therapy
- Surgical procedure
All of these options come with more risks than would be on the table with a chiropractor. The risks associated with chiropractic are usually limited to minor discomfort during and immediately after treatments
3. Relief of Pain and Inflammation
Ultimately, you want to see a chiropractor after a car accident when you are experiencing pain, discomfort, and or muscle tension/strain. Through a series of targeted adjustments or massage treatments, they can move the body in ways that reduce the inflammation that causes pain. They can also address issues like pinched nerves, herniated or ruptured discs, and muscle strains.
All of this works through the magic of increasing the flow of healthy blood throughout the body. Nothing heals if blood doesn’t get to the source of an injury or paid. Most adjustment and massage techniques are intended to unblock areas where the flow of healthy blood is being restricted.
4. Increase Your Range of Motion
Due to the pain you might feel and possible muscle tension, you will likely experience issues with your range of motion. Range of motion issues can occur in the back, neck, arms, and legs.
In order to restore your range of motion, a chiropractor would have to make spine adjustments to properly align your skeletal system, They might also need to employ certain massage techniques that will relieve muscle tension/strain and help increase blood flow to damage soft tissue.
As the treatment process continues and the healing takes place, you’ll find that muscle strength and tone will start to return. It’s at that point that you would likely see your range of motion getting progressively better.
5. Gather Support for an Insurance Claim
By the time the healing begins, you’ll have a betting understanding of the injuries and pain you sustained because of your involvement in a car accident. At some point, you are going to want or need reimbursement for your treatment costs and potentially something for pain and suffering.
While getting treatment, you will also have a better idea of who was at fault for the accident. If it was you, the best you could hope for is insurance reimbursement for medical costs and damage to your car. If another part was at fault, you might be entitled to a lot more in terms of compensation.
Of course, insurance companies are not in the habit of paying claims without the proper proof of injury. Seeing a chiropractor for even minor pain relief could result in you having a legitimate insurance claim.
With the knowledge of at least five (5) good reasons to see a chiropractor after a car accident, it’s something you should do as soon as possible. It’s all upside with little to no risks. We can help you.
